Le clos
du chevalier

A Little History

From the 12th to the 18th century, Le Clos du Chevalier was a place where the Knights Templar and later the Knights Hospitallers offered pilgrims on their way to Rocamadour a place to rest. Today, it is this initial role of our family home that we are dedicated to reviving.
Carrying on the knights’ tradition, we assure you of a very warm welcome whether you are on a romantic weekend, a family holiday or a getaway with friends.

We are passionate about the history of our house and the knights. In a way, we see ourselves as their guardians for a given time. It will, therefore, be our pleasure to show you around the medieval remains of this somewhat unusual place where, if lucky, you may even hear the knights whispering tales of their turbulent history.

Le Clos du Chevalier is located in the village of Le Bastit. Set deep in the countryside, quite far from the main tourist sights, Le Clos du Chevalier is a place where you can enjoy peace and quiet.

In the centre of the Regional Nature Park of the Causses du Quercy, now a Unesco Geoparc; a territory of remarkable geological heritage, Le Clos du Chevalier is located in an unspoilt, natural setting. Helping preserve the Causses is something in which we try to play a part through the small things we do every day.
We also enjoy the privilege of being in the "Triangle Noir", or Black Triangle of Quercy; an area free from light pollution where you can observe the best night sky in France.

The Lot department is home to over 500 historical monuments and heritage sites. Follow one of our many discovery trails and explore a different site every day!

Guest Rooms

Le Clos du Chevalier has three spacious and luxurious guest rooms.

These rooms are located in the main building and are reached through the main entrance door, the key to which is some 20 centimetres long. A step back in time is guaranteed!

The "Templier" room on the ground floor is made entirely of stone. Its floor, which is carved in a diamond-shaped pattern and dates from the 14th century, bears witness to the importance of this place. The large wardrobe in this room is dated 1782.

The family suite is located on the first floor and is reached by a wide, wooden staircase. The two rooms that comprise this suite, the "Hospitalier" and "Valetta" rooms, are connected by a small private corridor. The feel of the suite is rather 19th century; with old parquet flooring, antique furniture, paintings and prints.

“The Petit Salon” our guest lounge, is shared by all guests and is where our delicious breakfasts are served in the morning from 8.30 a.m. Our breakfasts include homemade produce, made using local and/or organic ingredients.

Le Clos du Chevalier has three charming gites, or holiday cottages, which can be rented individually or together.

The gites are housed in an annex, just fifty metres from the main building. The annex building is part of the commandery which has been completely refurbished.

Mindful of your comfort but also to stay in harmony with nature and in keeping with local traditions, natural materials were used in the refurbishment. Along with large windows and doors to let in natural light, hemp concrete was used for exterior wall insulation and natural stone used for walls and floors.

The furniture, paintings and tableware if not family-owned, are from antique or curiosity shops or have been made and restored by us.

The pool is located within the grounds of the commandery which is situated just nearby and reached by crossing a quiet country lane.
